The Best Way to Overcome the Limitations You Place on Yourself

If you’ve ever thought…

“I could never work out at 5 am/every day/after work.”

“I could never go vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free.”

“I could never do a triathlon/cross-fit/hot yoga.”

“I could never lose 20/50/100 pounds and keep it off.”

You may be holding yourself back from reaching your potential.

What you’re actually doing is putting limits on yourself — without even testing to see if they’re real.

This is even true if you’ve already “tried it” and “couldn’t do it”.

That’s because certain ways of testing your limitations are much more successful than others.

If you tried getting up at 5 am every day and failed on day three, it doesn’t mean you are incapable of creating that habit for yourself. You just have to try a different approach.

One limit I placed on myself for decades was “I’m not a runner”. I’d even been known to say, “I only run if someone is chasing me”, and then laugh because even I knew it sounded ridiculous.

It didn’t feel like a limitation because I’ve always loved taking long walks. (That’s the sneaky thing…
